In the Chinese laboratory of Wuhana research team announced the discovery of a new one virus. To the Wuhan Institute of Virology the pathogen – codenamed LsPyV KY187 – was discovered in a mouse. It belongs to a family of polyomaviruses that infect millions of children every year but with extremely mild symptoms. Scientists from the laboratory that was at the center of the controversy over the pandemic Covidtested 232 animals, including 226 rodents, five shrews and a hedgehog, all in Kenya in 2016 and 2019. The samples were then sent for analysis at the Wuhan biochemical research facility. The new polyomavirus was detected in a striped mouse, sometimes known as a zebra mouse.

Research and discovery
The new pathogen (LsPyV KY187) belongs to a family of polyomaviruses responsible for millions of infections each year, mainly in children, but usually asymptomatic or minor. The samples were examined and 25 animals tested positive and, in all but one cases, the genomes were traced to pre-existing viruses. The new polyomavirusdescribed in a study published in the Chinese journal Virologica Sinica, was found in a striped meadow mouse, also known as a zebra mouse, a small mammal belonging to the genus Lemniscomys widespread in sub-Saharan Africa.CopyAMP code.
“The new polyomavirus is not closely related to any virus known to cause disease in small host mammals or humans,” the researchers said. Its effect on people is unclear and needs to be further evaluated. The discovery of the new polyomavirus demonstrates “the need for ongoing studies on the discovery of pathogens, aimed at identifying viruses transmitted by rodents in East Africa”.
