The banks will suspend mortgages in the areas affected by the flood of recent days.On the night between Thursday 15 and Friday 16 September about four hundred liters of water per square meter fell, in particular on Pianello di Ostra, Cantiano, Senigallia, on the plains and on the hills of the upper Pesaro area, leaning against the border with Umbria. The Italian Banking Association (ABI) reports in a note that “as soon as the institutions have declared a state of emergency due to the exceptional bad weather that hit the Marche region, the ABI will invite the banks to suspend the mortgages of the affected populations, on basis of the Protocol that it signed with the Civil Protection and Consumer Associations, for emergencies of this kind “.
Fabi: aid and flexibility for bank workers
The Italian Autonomous Banking Federation (Fabi) also urged banks to guarantee both liquidity to manage the emergency phase and special credit lines to start the complex and costly reconstruction phase. «We express our utmost solidarity and closeness to all the families of the victims and to all those who were affected by the catastrophe that wounded the territory of the Marche region. We ask banks to ensure maximum flexibility and attention to female and bank workers, in terms of permits, personal benefits and agile work, ”said the secretary general of Fabi, Lando Maria Sileoni in a statement. “We are also confident that the entire Italian banking sector will be able to ensure the necessary aid and support to customers, suspending the installments of household mortgages and business loans, with a moratorium plan to be activated immediately. At the same time, we hope that the banks will guarantee both liquidity to manage the emergency phase and special credit lines to start the complex and costly reconstruction phase. In these dramatic moments, the real ability of banks to fully play a real social role in the territories is concretely measured ».
