There were 870 passengers on board: the Viking Sea was recovered after a 4-hour intervention

No consequences for passengers –

The Viking Sea with a maximum capacity of 930 passengers and from 8 am was regularly moored at the Cruise Terminal of Porto Corsini. The Port Authority of Ravenna has made it known that the harbor master’s office and the nautical technical services have promptly intervened, giving support to the ship which has been made safe and is constantly monitored. There was no consequence for the passengers. The Viking Sea is already re-moored in its position and when the weather conditions allow it, she will leave the port of Ravenna.

The recovery maneuvers –

The recovery operations, after the ship broke its moorings, lasted over 4 hours. The Viking Sea at 9:15 am broke the mooring lines by crossing and placing the keel on the sandy bottom, thus avoiding ending up against the cliff in front of the Guardian Pier of the Romagna port. To keep the boat in trim, 5 tugs were used. In the water also the patrol boat of the Coast Guard CP 328 in assistance, and the men of the mooring group. At first the tugs worked continuously to counter the violent gusts of wind that pushed the ship sideways against the reef, managing to bring it back parallel to the quay and then to keep it in a safe position; subsequently, when the wind decreased in intensity, the ship was brought back to the quay through a complex maneuver, with three tugs pushing on the side and two pulling the cables on the opposite side.
