(Teleborsa) – French Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne has announced the extension to 2023 of the tariff shield which provides for a limited 15% increase in gas and electricity tariffs for families, small businesses and small municipalities. The limits will cost the government 16 billion euros next year, Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire pointed out, adding that prices would have risen by 120% without the approval of this new limit.

According to government estimates, there will be: an average increase in bills of about 25 euros per month for households that heat with gas, instead of around 200 euros per month without tariff shield; an average increase of about 20 euros per month for households that heat with electricityinstead of 180 euros per month, without tariff shield.

To help the less well-off, specific aid will be provided, with exceptional energy allowances of 100 or 200 euros which will be paid to 12 million families by the end of the year.

“Only the sobriety and the European solidarity they will allow us to avoid gas cuts “in the event of a very cold winter,” Elisabeth Borne said.
