Among the first to rush to his grandmother’s bedside, the Prince William today published an official statement in which he says goodbye to his beloved grandmother. Guide and Source of inspiration. With the death of the Queen and the passing of Charles to King, William and his wife Catherine become the next Princes of Wales in line of succession.

Prince William, farewell to the Queen

William’s thought is not just the communiqué of a prince but the farewell note that a grandson would write to his beloved grandmother.

As William writes “pain is the price we pay for love“. And of love, we are sure, Elisabetta had a lot for her two grandchildren, sons of Carlo and Diana. Especially in the moment of greatest sadness for the two brothers when, still children, they lost their mother.

In that delicate situation the Queen personally took care of William and Harry.

Here the translation:

On Thursday, the world lost an extraordinary leader whose commitment to the country, the Kingdoms and the Commonwealth was absolute. So much will be said in the days to come about the significance of her historical reign.

I, on the other hand, have lost a grandmother. And while I grieve for the loss of her, I also feel incredibly grateful. I was able to benefit from the Queen’s wisdom and assurances in my fifth decade. My wife has had twenty years of guidance and support from her. My three children spent the holidays with her creating memories that will last a lifetime.

She was by my side in my happiest moments. And she has been by my side in the saddest days of my life. I knew this day would come, but it will take some time for the everyday life without grandmother to really become real.

Thank you for the kindness you have shown me and my family. And I thank you on behalf of my generation for providing an example of service and dignity in public life that was from a different era, but still relevant to us all.

My grandmother used to say that pain was the price we pay for love. All the sadness we will feel in the coming weeks will be the testimony of the love we have felt for our extraordinary Queen. I will honor your memory by supporting my father, the King, in any way I can.

No official note has yet arrived from Harry and Meghan.
