Between seminars and educational treks, the third edition of the School of Political Ecology in the mountains is about to start

Energy and renewable sources are just two of the themes at the center of the third edition of the School of Political Ecology in the Mountains at the start Friday 16 September. A unique experiment at national level open to 25 learners from all over Italy, dedicated to the deepening of an interdisciplinary current of studies that critically and positively tackles the relationship between man and the natural environment – and, in particular, between the man and a specific territory: that of the mountains.

The learners
The group of students was formed last August 22 and sees inside people aged 27 to 66 also of international scope: researchers engaged in European projects and studies, environmental engineers, anthropologists, landscape architects, sociologists, geographers, economistsi – to name a few – who will make a contribution to reflection, interacting horizontally with the teachers of the School, to bring the Bolognese Apennines to the center of a movement that moves between the global and the hyper-local.

Where is it
The places of the School of Political Ecology in the Mountains will be mainly Castiglione dei Pepoliin the province of Bolognaand from a network perspective, the entire Bolognese Apennine area (thanks to the collaboration already in place with the Municipalities of Camugnano and San Benedetto Val di Sambro and with the Bolognese Apennine Union). Designed by Boschilla and Articolturewith the patronage of the Emilia-Romagna Region, the School confirms the partnership with the Association Riabitare l’Italia – an Italian reference point for the study and development of inland areas -, to which this year the important support of Metropolitan City of Bologna and the technical collaboration of ART-ER.

The themes
The edition could not ignore facing the energy issuealbeit in plural terms: from the technical and technological challenges that ecological reconversion poses to the current production system – analyzing both the issue of energy supply from the perspective of mountain territories, and the potential and limits of renewables today -, to the deepening of the social implications connected to this theme, in particular with respect to the reality of energy communities, territorial networks of producers / consumers of renewable energy who share excess energy on the network. The sociological dimension will also be treated through the individual and collective experiences of those who choose to live, live and work in the mountain territory, transforming these marginal lands into lands of social and cultural experimentation, thanks to the energies of the community.

To discuss it, teachers and experts of international caliber, including Augusto Ciuffetti (Marche Polytechnic University), Giulia Sonzogno (Gran Sasso Science Institute of L’Aquila and contact person for the Internal Areas Technical Committee at the Presidency of the Council of Ministers of the Officina Giovani Aree Interne project), Giada Coleandro (University of Bologna), Attilio Piattelli (president Impresa21), e Ivano Scotti (University of Naples “Federico II”).
