It takes an overtime for Spain to prevail over the never tame Lithuania in today’s last round of 16 of EuroBasket 2022. Sergio Scariolo’s national team beats the Balkan team 102-94 (83-83 at the end of regular time) after 45 minutes of authentic battle, also recovering from -11. Now the reigning World Champions await the winner between Croatia and Finland in the quarter-finals (13-14 September) (scheduled for tomorrow at 14:45).

Top scorer for the Iberians is Lorenzo Brown with 28 points, along with Willy Hernangomez’s 21. At the Lithuania Mindaugas Kuzminskas ’18 points (formerly Olimpia Milano) and Ignas Brazdeikis’ 17 were not enough.

Burning start of the Spaniards with four points from Willy Hernangomez (4-0), to which Lithuania promptly replied with Grigonis (4-4). Lorenzo Brown’s triple brings the Giallorossi back to +3 (9-6), but the Baltics operate the counter-overtake with Domantas Sabonis in the middle of the quarter (9-11). In the second half Lithuania tries to manage the margin accumulated in the previous stages, with Spain following (42-47). The Baltics try to push on the accelerator, updating the maximum advantage to +11 with the triple of the former Olimpia Milano Kuzminskas (47-58). Juancho Hernangomez is perfect from the line: 2/2 and -8 Spain (50-58). Lorenzo Brown enters the area and scores: the Red Furies they gnaw two more points (52-58), but Lithuania promptly responded with the Kuzminskas bomb (52-61). Diaz and Garuba bring the national team of CT Scariolo back to -5 (56-61), but five consecutive points by Lekavicius allow the Baltic team to return +8 (56-64) to -1’43 “from the third siren. The Iberians, however, are anything but tame and remain in contact thanks to the bomb of Rodolfo Fernandez (63-66). Lorenzo Brown is the real protagonist of the extra time: break of 5-0 and +5 Spain (88-83). Kuzminskas continues to have a very hot hand from the bow (88-86). But it is still the Native American who sets up on his own, splitting the game in two: the Spaniards attempt the decisive draw (95-88). The Baltics are never dominated and continue to fight for every ball: Bradeikis shoots from distance for -1 (95-94). The free players of Brown first and of Lopez-Arostegui then sign the 102-94 with which Sergio Scariolo’s national team prevails over Lithuania, thus detaching the pass for the quarter-finals of EuroBasket 2022!
