Accident on the A12 between Versilia and Massa, car overturns and catches fire: 5-year-old girl dies

Tragedy Thursday morning along the A12 Genoa – Livorno motorway: a 5-year-old girl who died after being the victim, together with her family, of an accident occurred between the toll booths of Versilia (in the province of Lucca) and Massa, towards Genoa, at the height of viaduct number 30. The episode occurred around 10.30: the small, of Moroccan origin and resident in the province of Reggio Calabria, he was traveling with his parents and his 10-year-old sister aboard a car that overturned after a rear-end collision and shortly after went up in flames. For the child there was nothing to do: she was thrown out of the car and died instantly. The other three people who were inside the car were taken in yellow code to the Apuan hospital in Massa: their conditions do not raise particular concerns. The two people who were in the other vehicle involved in the accident were practically unharmed. The traffic police and firefighters, necessary to put out the flames that devoured the Moroccan family’s car, also intervened on the scene of the incident, together with the medical personnel sent by the “118” operations center.

Viability

The motorway section has been blocked to traffic both north and south to allow rescue operations with the landing of the Pegasus helicopter. This resulted in very long queues in both directions. During the rescue and subsequent surveys along the roadway heading north, the obligation to exit at the Versilia tollbooth was established for vehicles coming from Viareggio. To reduce the inconvenience to cars stopped in the queue in the section immediately preceding the accident, the police allowed them to travel the wrong way along the motorway to the Versilia tollbooth, then making them exit the A12 to enter the internal road network at Forte dei Marmi. . Only in the afternoon did the traffic situation return to normal.
