A photographic sector created in collaboration with ZEISS, excellent battery management, the largest fingerprint sensor on the market and after-sales assistance included in the price are the main features of a truly complete smartphone.

X80 Pro, vivo’s new top-of-the-range smartphone, is in our opinion one of the most interesting smartphones presented during the year. Generously sized, it is quite light (219 grams) and compact and has an innovative photographic compartment created in collaboration with ZEISS, a mega-fingerprint reader and excellent battery management. Let’s go into detail.

The main features

vivo X80 Pro has a very bright and fluid 6.78-inch display, with refresh rate up to 120 Hz. The system is managed by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor, on board we find 12 gigabytes of Ram (extendable to software level) and 256 of storage space. The operating system is Funtouch OS based on Android 12: it seemed fast and complete, it also has the Smart Remote software that allows the infrared sensor to control TVs, projectors, air conditioners, and so on. The device also integrates the largest cooling technology on the market, they explain, with a particularly large vapor chamber and 27 levels of graphite capable of absorbing the heat emitted (a function that will certainly appeal to gamers). The coating is machined from Fluorite AG glass and the phone is available in Cosmic Black.

The beating heart of vivo X80 Pro is the photographic sector, co-engineered by ZEISS, capable of making photographic functions of a cinematic level. On the back of the phone we find – inside a very visible embossed tile – a four-chamber system: the main one of 50 megapixels, a wide angle of 48 megapixel, a periscopic 8 megapixel camera and a 12 megapixel portrait camera. with Gimbal stabilization, which allows you to improve the stability of videos; below the screen we find the 32 megapixel front camera. All the cameras are managed by the vivo V1 + chip that works closely with the processor and integrates an artificial intelligence system that manages the part of imaging, while all the lenses have been certified by ZEISS and equipped with the T * Coating treatment “which improves – they explain – the transmission of light and helps reduce reflections”. During our tests we really liked “playing” with the filters and the many ZEISS modes that allow, for example, to improve the color rendering during shooting (the ZEISS Natural Color mode) or to shoot videos in cinema 2 format, 39: 1 with an oval gradient that resembles that of anamorphic cinema lenses (ZEISS Cinematic). And again: there is the Portrait mode that integrates the ZEISS Cinematic Style Bokeh to recreate classic atmospheres by adding the blur effect in the background as well as the ZEISS Superb Night Camera mode capable of improving night photography. The photos and videos we took using the many recording methods were very satisfying, as can be seen from our tests; we were not convinced instead by the shots with the zoom pushed to the maximum.

The battery and the mega-fingerprint sensor

All the insights from the innovation and technology column

In our opinion, the behavior of the 4,700 mAh battery was good, which allowed us to use the phone very much using the photographic part even beyond the whole day. Very fast charging: in our test we recharged the phone from fully discharged to 100% in exactly 35 minutes with the charger (a bit bulky) included in the box.

vivo X80 Pro also integrates a large and very fast fingerprint sensor: it occupies almost a third of the screen and, due to its size, allows practically lightning recognition even in the presence of wet hands or strong light on the screen. Very useful is the possibility – thanks to the large fingerprint reading area – to associate two applications in two corners, so that by placing your finger on the application icon, the phone immediately refers us to that app, as we have found very useful the possibility of protecting the most important data by inserting a double fingerprint.

Verdict, availability and pricing

vivo X80 Pro is therefore a really interesting product full of innovative features, ideal for those looking for a smartphone focused on the photographic sector but also with a good battery life, a fast software suitable for work, entertainment and gaming. Lots of technology at a certainly not low price: vivo X80 Pro costs 1,299 euros. Included in the price is the Exclusive Care service which includes, in case of repairs, the outlet and delivery at home, free video assistance and the repair or replacement of the damaged screen for the first six months of purchase.
