Multedo fishermen raise their voices and denounce some problems that have been dragging on for years. “After years of unheard reports – insists Daniela Borriello, head of Coldiretti Impresa Pesca Liguria – the situation has reached a truly unsustainable level. It is necessary to find solutions before something serious happens, because in addition to the economic shortfalls, in themselves large, fishermen find themselves daily in situations of concrete danger to their health and personal and work safety. The absolute silence shown by the institutions in the face of continuous complaints by the fishermen of the area is unacceptable “.

The situation, which has unfortunately become long-standing, is that of the fishermen present today at Piccola di Multedo, in Genoa. Originally these have always been in Via Cibrario, in Sestri Ponente, but since 1984, following the construction of the Marina di Sestri, their location has been temporarily moved to Multedo, on the basis of an agreement stipulated with the Port Authority, on the basis of which a subsequent and definitive relocation of their activities to another place was envisaged. “Starting from that date – explains Coldiretti – the fishermen never moved from the Piccola, maintaining their activities in any case in precarious conditions, until 2018, when, with the Genoa Decree, the works for the overturning of Fincantieri began. , making their relocation necessary. After years of research, the area adjacent to the ecological island in Prà was finally identified and, subsequently, the project for the relocation was prepared, whose end was expected in 2021. In 2020 In the meantime, the works of Fincantieri have begun, but nothing has yet been known about those relating to the area intended for fishermen: although we are talking about the end of 2023, unfortunately there are very few certainties. where they are now – adds Borriello – the fishermen find themselves literally crushed by the shipyard’s activities, which are dangerous both for the safety of the boats and, above all, for public health “.

“The fishermen – explain the head of Coldiretti Impresa Pesca Liguria, the president of Coldiretti Genova, Luca Dalpian, and the director of Coldiretti Genova, Paolo Campocci – have repeatedly reported the situation and the numerous episodes in which they found themselves involved. Structures unsafe, workers who work and move materials that are probably dangerous within the Fincantieri shipyard dressed in protective overalls without the fishermen being, however, even notified if they are dealing with harmful substances or in some way contaminating substances for them and for the catch, dusts from the construction site, often raised by the wind, of a dubious nature … And not only that: the boats are moored at the mouth of two streams and a canalized sewer, but unfortunately there is no protection for anyone in the event of a flood. Every day the work and the health of the fishermen are put at risk by the shipyard. realization and displacement of the activities in the Prà area taken in concession by the Municipality, which would avoid them both the daily dangers that they find themselves facing and the regular payment to the Port Authority of the concessions for the place where they are “.

.

“Today we are here to denounce – concludes Borriello – both the lack of listening perpetrated over the years by the institutions and the numerous dangers to the health and safety of the fishermen involved and their equipment. All the reports made so far by fishermen to the authorities and competent bodies, primarily the Port Authority, regularly sent by email and accompanied by video and photographic evidence, have not received any response: tomorrow, however, after numerous reminders, a long-awaited meeting of the PRIS (Regional Strategic Intervention Programs) will take place. On that occasion, we hope that the committee will at least meet the requests for compensation made over the years by the fishermen, to cover at least the decrease in turnover, the damage suffered and the potential failure to develop the activities caused by the yard. we will have to act differently at least they need guarantees to give them confidence in the future that awaits them. And hopefully better than the past and this present “.
