The tremendous impact with a Volkswagen Golf traveling on the opposite side of the carriageway, he left them no way out. So they lost their lives last Tuesday, August 30, just before 11pm, Mateo Gligorov and Simon Stamenkov, 18 and 17, both resident in Nizza Monferrato, in the province of Asti. The two were headed to Acqui Terme aboard a Fiat Punto together with two other friends of their age, who were injured in the crash.

The accident occurred on provincial road 230, near the municipality of Terzo, in the province of Alessandria, in a curved and poorly lit stretch of road near a bridge. Here, in the pouring rain, near a small stream, the tragedy is consummated. The two boys who survived the clash were rushed to the hospital in Alexandria: one of them is currently in a confidential prognosis, the other would not be in danger of life despite the multiple injuries sustained.

At the wheel of the Golf was instead a 46-year-old man, that according to the reconstruction of the facts by the investigators he was returning to his home in the town of Morbicelli, also in the Asti area. The latter was admitted to the Asti hospital. A group of boys arrived on the spot along the same stretch of road to assist the survivors, trapped between the sheets of the semi-destroyed cars. The young people managed to alert the authorities despite the problems of telephone signal shortages in the area. 118 ambulances, carabinieri and firefighters intervened on the scene of the accident.

The dynamics of the accident are not yet fully clear: the most likely hypothesis is that the driver of the Fiat Punto has lost control of the car because ofasphalt made slippery by the rain, to then invade the opposite lane of the road where the Golf was traveling. From the checks carried out by the investigators, so far no positive alcohol and drugs have emerged among the drivers of the cars.
