What’s more romantic than a candlelit dinner on Valentine’s Day in a magical and mysterious medieval castle? The proposal comes from the Castle of Avio, one of the FAI assets (Fondo Ambiente Italiano), which preserves an extraordinary cycle of fourteenth-century frescoes, some dedicated to Amor Cortese, love and courtship from the era of the Troubadours and the Provençal courts. In the Chamber of Love, which will be one of the stages of the guided tour on 14 February, there is a fresco of the God of Love intent on shooting (like Cupid) an arrow at a lady, in the same room you can admire the portrait of a knight kissing another lady. The Mastio dominates the whole Val Lagarina. The dinner will take place in the inn housed within the castle walls and will be supervised by chef Michele: you can choose between a menu with meat and a vegetarian menu, drinks are included in the price.
The Castle, one of the oldest in Trentino, built at the beginning of the year 1000 to control the communication routes to northern Europe, is in Sabbionara d’Avio, half an hour from Trento. All the info on the Valentine’s Day proposal on the site.
That of the Castello di Avio is only the first of the Trentino proposals for February 14th. Val di Fassa invites lovers to watch the sun rise on the slopes, before the arrival of the other skiers. Before this experience, the “Trentino Ski Sunrise” offer provides for lovers a hearty Trentino-style breakfast. The appointment for couples is at the departure point of the Buffaure cableway in Pozza. All the info and prices on the site.
More nature, outdoor sports and romanticism in the Valsugana proposal. Lovers will be able to go trekking with snowshoes to discover the Lagorai, a spectacular mountain group that extends for 70 kilometres. In Val di Sella it is absolutely worth visiting the Arte Sella park, an open-air museum unique in the world in which, since 1986, a series of international artists have created (and continue to create) works that dialogue with nature and interpret it without forcing it. Among the many, we mention some of the artists: Michelangelo Pistoletto, Nils-Udo, Arne Quinze, John Grade, Atsushi Kitagawara, Kenzo Kuma, Michele De Lucchi.
Remaining in the field of winter sports made to measure for lovers, on 17 February the “Tiramisù Amore” takes place, a non-competitive race for couples, at night, on the stretch of track that goes from Andalo up to the Dosson refuge. The Paganella lifts, precisely for the evening of 14 February, will be open at night like every Tuesday and Friday at sunset: for the occasion, the ski instructors are already training for their special “Sky Night Show”, sporty and bright at the same time dedicated to lovers (info: www.visitdolomitipaganella.it).
Naturally, among the Trentino proposals, there is no shortage of “gourmand” appointments: parallel to the night opening of the slopes in Paganella, you can taste the flavors of Trentino cuisine in the moonlight and in the warmth of the fireplace, at the Dosson refuge, reachable by open facilities. Other romantic dinner ideas at high altitude come from Garda Trentino Winter Experience: climb up to Monte Stivo, with a spectacular view of Lake Garda.
