LONGARONE – His friend, who hadn’t seen him since the day before, found him lying on the ground on Friday evening: Dino Bampa84 years old, from Treviso had died not far from the church of Faè, nearby he had found shelter in the nights when he did not sleep in the car.

THE ALARM
It was dark when Dino was found: his friend immediately saw that he didn’t show any signs of life. He called the carabinieri and the soldiers, once on the spot, also called the magistrate on duty. It was not clear what could have caused the death even for a conspicuous wound between the temple and the cheekbone. The body was reassembled and transported to the morgue cell of the San Martino hospital to await the autopsy. Indeed, there was doubt that that head wound could have been caused by someone and that Dino Bampa had died from the consequences. Yesterday the pathologist Antonello Cirnelli dismissed this hypothesis, no homicide. Dino Bampa had slipped a few days ago while picking apples in a small field nearby, but he hadn’t paid attention to that blow which would have proved fatal instead.

LONELINESS
The 84-year-old lived alone, a complicated existence that in recent months had touched some reception facilities not only in the Province of Belluno, but also in that of Treviso. Certainly at the end of November he had been a guest of the Ceis of Vittorio Veneto which he would have left when the management asked him for a contribution for hospitality. Dino Bampa was in fact the owner of a small pension. From Vittorio Veneto he had then moved to Treviso making some contacts with a nun who is responsible for offering support to people in difficulty within an assistance institution. An appointment had also been made for Dino Bampa with a social worker from the capital of the Marca, but he would not show up. The nun who had arranged the meeting had therefore contacted Caritas of Belluno assuming that perhaps the man could have turned to structures in our city, where in fact he had worked until 2006 as an employee for the Intertwined Hands Cooperative which managed precisely in Longarone a farm.

THE CONTACT
Dino Bampa a few weeks ago would have contacted Sersa, but without follow-up. In Faè he lived without bothering anyone, partly in the car, sometimes in a sort of shelter that he had built near the apple orchard near the little church where his friend found him lying lifeless on the ground on a cold evening January under the starry sky. “Accidental death caused by a previous injury caused by a fall”, reads the report which also erases with a sponge the dossier hypothesized at the beginning for murder.
