The Xbox is one of the most powerful consoles in terms of energy and therefore we must be very careful with its use: if you do this you will save a lot of money on your bill.

The Xbox Series X/S are home video game consoles developed by Microsoft. Both were released on November 10, 2020 as the fourth generation Xbox, following the Xbox One. Together with Sony’s PlayStation 5, which was also released in November 2020, the Xbox Series X/S consoles are part of the ninth generation of video game consoles.

Their advanced technology allows you to play with graphics and performance at very high levels, but at the same time we have to be very careful about energy consumption. The high bills and the increase in prices that have been occurring in recent months are a wake-up call, so here are some tips for saving money without giving up the fun of video games.

How much does the Xbox consume?

From Microsoft’s website, it seems that the Xbox Series X is more energy efficient than Sony’s console, at least when it comes to gaming sessions.
When running, the Xbox Series X consumes 153 watts. Thus, a two-hour session per day in October is equivalent to a consumption of 1.11 euros per week.

Being less powerful, the Xbox Series S consumes even less, just 74 watts. So, the same two hours a day would cost would cost 54 cents a week.
Power consumption is slightly higher than the PlayStation 5 in standby mode: 0.5 watts for the Xbox Series X and 0.4 watts for the Xbox Series S.

How to save money on Xbox

Turning off the Xbox and giving up playing really seems like a last resort, but there are tricks and alternative solutions that allow you to play video games, but at the same time save energy, money and therefore avoid very high electricity bills at the end of the month .

If you haven’t already done so, we recommend setting your Xbox to mode energy saving. It has recently been discovered that leaving her in the mode instant-on (which makes the console boot faster) costs approx 60€ of energy per year. Low Power Mode will save you all that money at the cost of having a slightly slower boot up, but it’s totally worth it.
