Italy qualified for the quarter-finals of the Davis Cup. The Azzurri have booked the ticket for the final phase of the maximum tennis competition for national teams thanks to the victories obtained against Croatia and Argentina, waiting for the final match against Sweden (decisive for the first place in the Bologna group and for determining the Malaga draw).
Matteo Berrettini he made his debut with a success against Croatian Borna Cilic and then dismissed Argentine Sebastian Baez. Jannik Sinner instead he missed the first match to recover better from a small ankle problem accused at the US Open and then managed to get the better of the Argentine Francisco Cerundolo, able to drag him to the third set.
They are claims that though they do not change the ATP ranking. For years, in fact, the Davis Cup has not awarded points for the classification international and thus the ranking of our standard bearers does not undergo changes: Jannik Sinner remains 11th with 3,200 points, while Matteo Berrettini occupies the 15th place with 2,360 points to his credit.
