Could “Champions under the stars” miss the magnificent triumphs of the last volleyball World Championship? Obviously not. So, albeit in a few days, a new evening was organized on Friday 23 September at 9 pm in the Auditorium of Città Studi. Ferdinando De Giorgi’s young national team wrote a very important page in the already glorious history of Italian volleyball by beating Poland 3-1 at the Spodek Arena, thus graduating world champion 24 years after the last gold medal won in Japan. For the Azzurri this is the fourth world title after those obtained in ’90, ’94 and ’98 and thus becoming the only team after the USSR (at 6 between ’49 and ’82) to reach this goal. Some of the Azzurri World Champions will be in Biella on the weekend of 24 and 25 September to participate in the first quadrangular super league tournament “Volley under the Mucrone”, scheduled on the parquet floor of the Biella Forum and organized by the Biella Volleyball School.
On the occasion, four of the strongest and most titled Italian and European men’s volleyball teams will be present in the city. These are Modena Volley, Trentino Volley, Vero Volley Monza and the Italian champions of Cucine Lube Civitanova. In their ranks there are seven players who have put the most precious medal around their necks: Fabio Balaso, Simone Anzani and Mattia Bottolo (Lube), Alessandro Michieletto, Riccardo Sbertoli and Daniele Lavia (Itas) and Gianluca Galassi (Vero Volley). The Azzurri will be interviewed by the Biella journalist and writer Alessandro Alciato.
The event organized by the councilor for sport of the City of Biella, with the valid help of the councilor for Culture, events and events and the collaboration of the councilor for sport of the municipality of Vigliano, is made possible thanks to the coordination of the Pro loco Biella – Oropa Valley.
