“There isn’t a meter of plain, I quickly understood why it is one of the toughest Granfondo in Europe”. Words of Adriano Maloriformer professional runner, who first of all had the opportunity to discover the secrets of 5 Thousand Marches 2022scheduled for the weekend from Friday 14 to Sunday 16 Octoberwith an ad hoc reconnaissance on the route of the Granfondo 5 Milascheduled for Sunday, together with the organizer of the event Andrea Tonti.

From the Conero Riviera to the hills of the Marche hinterland, crossing the historic villages of the Region with breathtaking scenery, even Malori was bewitched by what he saw: “Defining the Granfondo 5 Mila simply hard would be too trivial – explained the former Parma runner, born in 1988 -. The continuous ups and downs they reminded me of Liège-Bastogne-Liège, in which there is no room to breathe, you always have to relaunch and in the end you reach the finish line exhausted, but satisfied. Although I have often raced there in the Marche, I did not know much about it from a tourist point of view and I was pleasantly surprised. The most suggestive point of the route? According to me the tear of Pollenza, very hard, but with spectacular scenery. I can’t wait to go back in October ”.

Malori was a professional from 2010 to 2017, running with the prestigious Lampre and Movistar jerseys and, in the years in which he was in business, he represented the Italian reference point in time trials. In the discipline he was European and world champion (Varese 2008) among the U23s, while among the professionals he won the silver medal at Richmond 2015, as well as three Italian titles and stages in the Tirreno-Adriatico and the Vuelta a España. A bad fall in Argentina in 2017, at the Tour de San Luis, forced him to put an end to his career prematurely at the moment of maximum maturity as an athlete. Today he opened his biomechanical business in the province of Parma, with which he makes his experience available to optimize the cycling performance of his customers.

The Marches, however, trigger sweet memories for the rider Malori, given that at the 2012 Giro d’Italia, after the Urbino-Porto Sant’Elpidio stage, he wore the Maglia Rosa. That fraction featured, among other things, also the ascent of Cingoli, which the former Lampre will find again at GF 5 Mila: “That day I went on the run to protect my captain Michele Scarponi, which was in a group. Eventually, the escape took off and went to the finish. I was second, but I took the Maglia Rosa. That morning I never thought that that day would become one of the most beautiful of my career ”. And speaking of the late Scarponi: “Passing through its areas is always a Source of emotion, but also of good memories”.
