During the Italian night, the second week of meetings at the Adelaide center began. The WTA 500 International 2, despite the absences of Pegula and Swiatek, has a sensational entry list with 16 players among the top 22 in the world. These are the first responses from the field.

[10] D.Collins b. [Q] Ka. Pliskova 6-2 6-4

Continue the “no” period of Karolina Pliskova who collects another clear defeat from the finalist of the last Australian Open. A one-sided game in which the Czech struggled a lot to get into the game: in her first three rounds of service she never managed to have a game ball, finding herself down 0-5 in just a few minutes. Despite a small empty passage of the n. 14 in the world, the first set ends after just 36 minutes in favor of the American. Pliskova starts the second set more centered and organized in her ideas: the fifth game will be fatal, the longest of the match with 17 points played and 3 unused game balls to decree the decisive break and the end of the match. Great start to the season for Danielle Collins who here in Australia has a very important bill, last year’s final: it is mandatory to do well.

J. Teichmann b. [SR] A. Pavlyuchenkova 7-5 6-4

Danielle Collins’ opponent will be Jil Teichmann, victorious tonight over Pavlyuchenkova. The Swiss, who had to go through the qualifiers, got the better of the Russian, in the draw thanks to the Special Ranking, in one hour and 40 minutes. The no. 33 in the world confirms the form that has accompanied her in recent months since the victory against Switzerland in the BJK Cup last November.

E. Alexandrova b. [WC] J. Fourlis 7-5 6-3

Victory also for the n. 20 of the world Ekaterina Alexandrova. Despite the clear difference between the two players on the field, the Russian took a few games before entering the game and found herself down by a break at the start. Once the measures of the field were taken, Alexandrova left no way out for the young Australian, 160 WTA. In the next round, the Russian will face one between Azarenka and Kudermetova.

B. Haddad Maia b. [Q] St. Cirstea 7-6(5) 6-1

Beatriz Haddad Maia, the Brazilian who amazed the tennis world last summer, is also struggling to find the dimensions of the field and the right rhythm. Expectations on the left-handed player from São Paulo are high and the spotlights are on her. After a first set more difficult than expected, the n. 15 in the world sweeps away the Romanian Cirstea and starts the 2023 season well. She awaits the winner of the match between Anisimova and Samsonova.

P.Kvitova b. E. Rybakina 6-3 7-5

The winner of Wimbledon 2022, Elena Rybakina, also disappoints in the results. With a break per set, in an hour and 40 minutes of the match, the left-handed Petra Kvitova takes the second round against the winner between Zheng and Rogers.

[8] B. Bencic b. [WC] G. Muguruza 6-3 6-4

In the last match of the day, perhaps the most interesting one on paper, the No. 8 seed Belinda Bencic eliminated Garbine Mugurura. The Spanish tennis player was present thanks to a wild card but she had to give up in front of the greater solidity of the Swiss, who didn’t even concede a break point and was satisfied with the two she won throughout the match. In fact, with a break per set, the world No. 13 beat the former world No. 1, now No. 58, 6-3 6-4.
