A very serious road accident occurred on the road that connects Massafra to Martina Franca, in the province of Taranto. The toll is three dead, all very young, plus one seriously injured. The car in which the boys were travelling, an Opel Corsa, ended up on a wall.

The victims are 20-year-old Leonardo Carucci with his 13-year-old sister, and the 19-year-old driver from Martina Franca. The fourth boy, with serious injuries and traumas, was transported to the Taranto hospital by a 118 ambulance but his life would not be in danger.

The accident happened around 7.30 pm on Sunday 22 January, in the locality of Cernera. The boys were going from Massafra to Martina Franca. The carabinieri intervened for the reliefs, the local police, the firefighters and the 118 health personnel. It is probable that among the causes there is also the asphalt made slippery by the rain or the poor visibility on the road, due precisely to the rainfall intense. The findings will be useful to clarify the dynamics of the accident. The mayor of Massafra, Fabrizio Quarto, announced the city’s mourning.
