The woman was on vacation in Alfedena, a small tourist town, located in the external protection area of ​​the Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise National Park, not far from Castel di Sangro. According to the first information gathered by the investigators, Antonella Di Falco, she would have left the house in the morning, to take a walk in Pianoro Campitelli di Alfedena, at an altitude of 1450, near the lake of Montagna Spaccata. It is a densely wooded area at high altitude, upstream from the town of Alfedena. She then she would have moved away from the path that she had initially taken, with the intention of collecting twigs of dry wood and the sudden illness, which left no way out. Her body was found lying on the ground, near a shelter. She had been dead for a few hours.

The search was triggered by her husband, not seeing her returning home to her holiday home. The carabinieri from the Alfedena station, commanded by the lieutenant Maurizio Lenci, of the CC Company of Castel di Sangro, under the orders of the major, Fabio Castagna, went to the place. Together with them, the doctors and the men of the Alpine and Speleological Rescue of Sulmona and Penne. The military carried out the necessary investigations, which would have led to the exclusion of third party liability. Upon completion of the formalities, the judicial authority competent for the territory was informed for the duties of the case. Antonella Di Falco’s body was taken to the nearby mortuary of the Castel di Sangro hospital. The magistrate on duty at the Court of Sulmona, following the outcome of all the investigations, issued the authorization for her burial. In the next few days, the funeral rite for the last farewell to Antonella Di Falco will be celebrated. A holiday without returning home, unfortunately, for the middle-aged woman, a lover of nature, of Abruzzo and in particular of the Alto Sangro, where she often went to spend short periods of relaxation, away from the heat and noise of the city. The men of the Alpine and Speleological Rescue of Sulmona and Penne, have traveled every path in the mountain area, in search of the woman with the hope of finding her alive and in good condition. After several hours of research, however, the discovery of her body, in the vicinity of the Campitelli refuge. The mayor of Alfedena, Luigi Milano, was informed of the sad epilogue and addressed, also in the name of citizenship, a thought of affection and closeness to the woman’s family. He too went to the place of the discovery. In the village the woman was known and appreciated for her friendliness. In fact, it had already been several years that she, together with her husband, preferred the small town of Alfedena for her holiday, located at 914 meters above sea level and characterized by the natural landscape and its lake surrounded by woods.
