Extraordinary openings and admissions at the symbolic cost of 1 euro: this is the program of the European Heritage Days, the largest and most popular cultural event in Europe, which returns with many appointments also in Tuscany. Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 September guided tours and special initiatives will be held in museums and places of culture on the theme “Sustainable cultural heritage: a legacy for the future “. Also, Saturdays are scheduled extraordinary evening openings in state museums with admission for only 1 euro.
In Florence between museums, Medici villas and libraries
Extraordinary opening in the evening and at a cost of 1 euro per person on Saturday 24 September for the Uffizi and the Accademia Gallery (from 7pm to 10pm), but also for the Museum of the Opificio delle Pietre Dure (from 20 to 23) and for archaeological Museum (from 20 to 23).
The Medici villas are also involved: always on Saturday you can visit the Villa di Poggio a Caiano and Villa di Cerreto Guidi (from 7pm to 10pm), while Villa La Petraia will host a special event: the “Grand 19th Century Ball” of the association “Società di Danza Firenze”, sponsored by the Municipality of Florence.
In the prestigious frescoed sixteenth-century courtyard, transformed at the behest of the first king of Italy into a reception hall for parties, it will be possible to relive the atmosphere of traditional European society dances. From 19.30 to 22.30 dancers in period dresses will recreate a nineteenth-century dance party with romantic waltzes, quadrilles, mazurkas. Some excerpts from the concert performed at the Petraia on 1 September 1872 will be re-proposed on the occasion of the engagement party of the son of Vittorio Emanuele II with Blanche De Larderel.
On the occasion of DayAnd EuropeAnd of the Heritage moreover, the libraries of Palazzo Medici Riccardi open their doors to the public Saturday 24 September. There Riccardiana Library and the Moreniana Library can be discovered by the general public thanks to a special visit (scheduled at 10, 11 and 12), which starts from the original nucleus of the building – the courtyard of the columns – continues through the rooms of the museum itinerary, until reaching at the Riccardiana Library. Here, exceptionally, it will be possible to access the mirrored Library (current study room of the Riccardiana Library) thanks to one of the passages hidden by the carved and gilded wardrobes, to deepen its history, appreciate its collection and conclude the journey with the equally precious rooms and funds of the Riccardiana Library.
Special events from Versilia to Maremma
On the occasion of Days European of the Patrimonio many special events will be held throughout Tuscany.
In Prato you can participate in free guided tours at the academic yeararchaeological area of Gonfienti (Saturday and Sunday at 9.30), while a Torre del Lago you can visit the villa of Giacomo Puccini, where the master lived the last years of his life and composed the Turandot (Saturday and Sunday from 20.30 to 22.30) and Montelupo Fiorentino Saturday morning there will be an urban trekking that starts from the Ceramics Museum and runs through the streets of the towndiscovering works of contemporary art,.

The National Museum of the Monumental Charterhouse of Calci instead on Sunday afternoon it offers special visits to the green areas adjacent to the monastery, usually closed to the public. Many extraordinary initiatives also at National Etruscan Museum of Chiusi, which opens to visitors on Saturday evening from 20 to 23 at a cost of 1 euro, while on Saturday afternoon at 16.30 it offers an appointment for the little ones: a special guided tour at the end of which the children will compose the puzzle “Tiles of history”, depicting an important work of the museum and will be able, with the help of the staff, to find it in the exhibition and deepen its details.
Finally a Grosseto in the Archaeological Park of Roselle Saturday and Sunday (from 16 to 18.30) will be held “Traces of humanity”a theatrical journey of the Compagnia delle Seggiole through a selection of pieces from Sophocles, Aristophanes, Plautus, Seneca and Shakespeare.
