1. THE FESTIVALS

September and October are the months of Festivals and Reviews. And there really is something for everyone.

Festivals that combine culinary challenges and live music such as the Cous Cous Fest, which this year turns 25, reviews in the cultural sites of Sicily with sunset concerts and theatrical performances. And yet immersive and unique experiences in which the visitor is the protagonist in the first person through visits with augmented reality and magical video mapping.

In October the baton passes to the debutante Alcamo, then Palermo, Carini, Catania, Cefalù, Ragusa, Scicli which will become large widespread museums, which can be visited with a single coupon.

3. THE CONCERTONI

Big international and Italian names have chosen Sicily as the stage for their tours.

In fact, between September and October the island hosts names of the caliber of Anastacia who brings her European tour to the Metropolitan Theater of Catania for a megaconcerto scheduled for September 24th.

With multi-platinum mega hits like “I’m Outta Love” and “Left Outside Alone” Anastacia is one of the most recognizable voices of our time. This tour of Anastacia is her first since the one in support of the album “Evolution” of 2018.

And there is no shortage of big names on the Italian front too.

It begins with the double concert by Francesco Gabbani who chooses Sicily for his summer tour. He performs at the Teatro di Verdura in Palermo on September 16, 2022 (for the Estate al Verdura festival), and at the Teatro Antico in Taormina on September 18 (as part of Sotto il Vulcano Fest 2022).

On 24 and 25 September, it is the turn of Umberto Tozzi brings his “Gloria forever” tour to Palermo and Taormina which – in the year of the artist’s 70th birthday, celebrates the music and career of one of the greatest songwriters of the Italian music scene.

And again on 24 September, again in Taormina, Marco Masini also arrives in Sicily with the “T’innamorerai di noi – Over 30 years together”, the new tour born from the artist’s need to thank his audience for these over 30 years spent together, in love with each other.

An expected return is expected in October when Negramaro’s Unplugged tour lands in Sicily and returns to play live in theaters after 15 years of absence. The band also arrives in Sicily for a single date at the Metropolitan Theater of Catania on October 28, 2022.

4. THEATERS

Great expectations for the return to the stage of the new Enrico Brignano show entitled “But … let’s talk about you!“which gives an appointment on September 16 at the Ancient Theater of Taormina and on September 17 at the Teatro di Verdura in Palermo.

Also in Palermo, until 2 October, there is a new (and last) appointment with “Palermo Not Scema Festival “the summer season of outdoor performances of the Agricantus Theater where Sergio Vespertino’s “Survival Manual” is staged.

A pleasant summer of cabaret between shows and fun to be spent in company is also the occasion offered by the CineTeatro Colosseum and the King Midas of Palermo which has a rich calendar of events that takes place on Saturday evening, until 24 September, at sign of a summer of novelty and endless laughter.

And again, the summer continues also at the Villa Filippina Park in Palermo where on September 23 Stefano Piazza returns to the stage with a show to be laughed at: his “Sicilian block letters”.

And then again, space for theatrical reviews with the new season of the Teatro Biondo, which connects memory and the future, combining classics and new writings, with veterans of the scene and young actors; and with the new season of the Free Theater scheduled from 27 October 2022 until May 2023.

5. EXHIBITIONS

There is time until September 26 to admire the art of Ryan Mendoza, with the exhibition “The Golden Calf” which can be visited at the Royal Palace of Palermo. The exhibition is set up along the tour of the Monumental Complex at the Royal Apartments, the Maqueda Courtyard and the Royal Gardens.

The educational exhibition at the Selinunte Archaeological Park “Ars Aedificandi. The construction site in the classical world”which reconstructs i construction sites set up to build the temples of Selinunte: from the blocks quarried from the Cusa quarries to the enormous structures that have survived to the present day.

The Mac of Gibellina hosts “Frida Kahlo, portrait of a life” (open until September 30, from Tuesday to Sunday, from 9.30 to 13.30 and from 16.00 to 20.00). An exhibition created with 150 original photographs that tells the life, art, friendships, loves and historical events of Frida Kahloone of the most important artists of the 20th century.

Again, an exhibition also appreciated by children: at the MEC museum in Palermo there is “Cartoon iCons”, which sees the South African pop artist of international fame exhibit for the first time in Sicily Fringe.

If you are in Gela, to see “Ulysses in Sicily. The places of the Myth”, the exhibition organized by the Sicilian Region in collaboration with the Municipality of Gela within the Bosco Littorio Archaeological Park.

Over eighty exhibits from regional, national and foreign museums with the “Ship of Gela“, datable between the sixth and fifth centuries BC and found in the seabed in front of the coast of Bulala of the Sicilian city, which for the first time is partially reassembled and exposed to the public in Sicily, after the Forlì exhibition in 2020.
