«Accompanying an important share of the current 18,000 forestry workers to retire with the employment, agreed with the State, in whole or in part of the approximately 100 million euros per year of agricultural unemployment paid to workers employed in Sicily. And again, to employ the remaining part of workers for an indefinite period, also with the use of appropriately targeted sources of financing. Furthermore, reorganize forestry work, with the inclusion of skills related to the current needs for environmental protection – climate change, new green deals, renewable energy resources – and modernize forestry management systems ». This was declared by the president Renato Schifani, candidate for the presidency of the center-right region, who launches some proposals for a more functional reorganization of the sector.
«In July 2019 the European Commission – Schifani recalls – communicated to the Italian government the start of an infringement procedure for not having correctly implemented a Directive on fixed-term employment contracts. To overcome this procedure it is necessary to intervene with a regulation that allows for stability to forestry workers, now seasonal with fixed-term employment contracts, with employment guarantee ”, concludes Schifani.
