Summer of 110 and praise in the authentic beauties of Puglia. The history, the boundless cultural heritage preserved in museums, castles, areas and archaeological parks, the excitement, the events and the cultural events organized, have contributed, in the heart of summer, to bring tourism back to large numbers, for a total of about 110 thousand visitors registered in July and August in all places of culture belonging to the Puglia Regional Museum Directorate.
Castel del Monte is confirmed as the favorite destination of the public with over 60 thousand visitors in two months; silver medal for the Castle of Bari with almost 25 thousand tourists in the same period.
The two manors, moreover, were also protagonists of a surge compared to pre-pandemic data: the Unesco heritage monument recorded an increase in audience of 7 percent, with a net growth of over 4 thousand guests, and an increase in revenues of 12 percent. one hundred compared to the same period of 2019, the year in which state museums recorded the peak of public and collections never before recorded in the statistics of the Ministry.
The great absentee of the last two years, the foreign component, although not yet at the levels of 2019 for the international situation, has returned to be present everywhere and, precisely in Castel del Monte, 15 percent of the total users in July and August were represented from French and German-speaking tourism.
Performance of great style for the Castle of Bari: going from 13 thousand admissions in 2019 to 25 thousand in the two summer months just passed, it doubled the number of visitors and proceeds.
On the third step of the podium, the Archaeological Park of Siponto, one of the most visited places of culture..
The turnout of the other sites is now almost in line with the pre-pandemic period, with particular regard to the Castle of Copertino, the Archaeological Park of Egnazia and the Castle of Trani.CopyAMP code
“While we were expecting a consoling normality after the long night of Covid, we instead tasted record numbers – comments the Regional Director of Puglia Museums, dr. Luca Mercuri – with tourist flows well beyond the pre-Covid golden year. I express great appreciation for the turnout which, on the one hand, confirms the historical and archaeological charm of our region, and on the other, testifies to the effectiveness of the promotional initiatives undertaken. We are now aiming at seasonally adjusting cultural projects to make an encore of attendance even in autumn and winter, continuing to promote quality initiatives, including at an international level, which can enhance this trend. My gratitude goes, as always, to all the supervisory staff of our sites who play an essential role ».
