After about 3 years of absence, Peugeot Motocycles finally returns to have a direct presence in Italy thanks to a new structure, set up almost from scratch and entrusted to an expert managing director with a long past in the field automotive. The renewed Italian branch will formally start its activities starting from 1 October with the aim of reviving the fortunes of the Lion’s house in the Bel Paese, a work that will start from a profound rethinking of the distribution network, the sales channels and the services offered. . The decision to rely only on a distributor for a crucial market such as our own, first in Europe in terms of volumes, has evidently not brought the hoped-for results to the managers of the brand, now part of the Indian group Mahindra. Hence the decision to retrace one’s steps starting from the creation of a new organization, expressly dedicated to the Italian market, with already clear and understandably rather ambitious objectives.

The man in charge of leading this renaissance is Giovanni Notarbartolo di Furnari, 55, previously engaged in managerial positions for multinationals such as Mercedes, FCA and Piaggio. He joined Peugeot Motocycles in 2020 to coordinate activities in the Italian market and develop strategies for those in Latin America, but he will continue to hold the second position also in the new role of managing director of the Italian branch. During a recent informal meeting with the press, the new “number one” of Peugeot Motocycles in our country explained the reasons behind the rethinking: “The absence of Peugeot in Italy has been noticed in the last 3 years. Our distributor did his job and he did it well, considering the particular period we went through. But between pandemics, rising costs and a whole other series of events, a storm has been created that is too big for their backs to bear, which are not and cannot be as strong as those of a house directly present on the territory. This did nothing but fuel our desire, which already existed, to return to having a direct presence on the Italian market. “

The return of Peugeot Motocycles to Italy is obviously not dictated solely by logistical reasons. The long-term goal is to re-establish a strong connection with the territory to facilitate the landing of a series of new models on which it focuses a lot: “We come back because we missed Italy – underlined Notarbartolo di Furnari – but also because it is the first European market in terms of overall registrations, both for motorbikes, a supremacy that is competing with France, and for scooters, in which it is clearly the most important. And we sell scooters. In addition to this, however, the other important factor that made us take this decision concerns the product: we are about to completely renew our range and in particular those products that are perfectly suited to the Italian market. “
The current range of Peugeot Motocycles consists mostly of 50 cc models, in which the Kisbee, Streetzone and Speedfight scooters are offered, while the popular Tweet is also available in 125 and 200 cc engines. The finest Django and Pulsion are offered only with a 125 cc engine while the only electric model on the list is the minute E-ludix. However, this offer is destined to change radically in the short term: “There will soon also be the first Peugeot motorcycle – announced Notarbartolo di Furnari without going into details – a 125 cc that will be available immediately in Italy from the first quarter of 2023. More in there, between the second and third quarter, another 300 cc will arrive. And then the electric will also arrive, on which up to now we have been rather shy because we did not have the experience that others have competitor they could boast. I too see what happens in our big cities, where electric rental is growing. This is a market segment that we will also enter, but on tiptoe, with our current e-Ludix and then with an electric version of the Streetzone. The famous event Milan, this year scheduled from 10 to 13 November, represents a fundamental step in the relaunch process studied by Peugeot Motocycles: “Eicma 2022 will be extremely important for us – he reiterated the managing director – last year and the year before we were not there, but this year we will absolutely be there and with the whole new range. There will also be the new XP 400, which will be our new flagship model, but also a whole new version of the Tweet, which I have already personally seen some time ago and which is basically another model than the current one ”.

This new chapter in the history of Peugeot Motocycles in our country therefore begins with determination. The relaunch intentions are also underlined by a new brand image, more than ever determined not to repeat the mistakes of the past: “We have a new brand – confirmed Notarbartolo from Furnari – the same as Peugeot auto, which we use on the basis of new synergies and new agreements with Stellantis. Starting in 2023, all our vehicles will also have the same black shield with the Lion. In the past there have been technical support, after-sales and other problems, but today we are tightening partnership with several high-level companies that will help us manage this aspect, especially in the initial phase. We intend to provide a first level service right from the start “. In light of such combative intentions, the Lion’s house seems to have every intention of roaring again.
