The project of the wine entrepreneur Giuseppe Coppola. the second in Puglia
from Antonio Della Rocca
For this purpose a Sannicolain the Lecce area, the largest cemetery in Italy, unique in Salento and second in Puglia. The structure, presented this morning at Cantina Coppola, in Gallipoli, is the result of an idea by Giuseppe Coppola owner of the same winery, in the knowledge that those who choose to welcome a pet at home, then want to have a place where it can be remembered.
The presentation was attended by the mayor of Sannicola, Cosimo Piccione, and the president of the Province of Lecce, Stefano Minerva as well as the designers. The particular sensitivity to these needs derives from the fact that the tourist accommodation facilities managed by the Coppola family for fifty years now, very often welcome guests with companion animals for which adequate services are required.
In the decades of activity we have also observed the changes in the lifestyle of the guests – says Giuseppe Coppola – and the evolution of the concept of pet, now considered an integral part of the family. There is growing attention to everything related to the quality of life of these pets and their presence increasingly affects people’s choices, even with regards to holidays. The structure will rise in the locality of Santa Teresa, on a land of over 56 thousand square meters, purchased by the engineer Niccol Coppola in the 40s, and which the Coppola family has handed down for three generations. When the work is completed, the structure will have a capacity of about 9 thousand burials and for this reason it is currently considered the largest in Italy. In addition to the cemetery equipment, the area will host a park for dog agility, about 3 thousand square meters wide, equipped with 21 fixed wooden stations for dog agility competitions.
