Suicides in uniform, the Silf Fvg alarm
That of suicides in uniform is unfortunately, a growing trend: to turn on the lights on the phenomenon is the Silf (Syndicate of Financial Workers) of the Fvg which asks for more attention.
In fact, in 2022 there were two suicides in Fvg and fifty in all of Italy, the last of which involved a 49-year-old financier serving in Trieste. “Unfortunately, we are witnessing a steadily increasing trend in cases of suicide among the police, which did not stop even during the pandemic and which unfortunately does not spare our region – explains Armando Gallucci, regional secretary of SILF -. In a work context more and more difficult because marked by objectives to be achieved at any cost, come on retirements and by the continuous increase of the average age following the lack of turnoverowing to sudden political decisions in recent years, there is a heavy air among the financiers. And the worsening of the social context in which we live determines enormous psychological pressures, both internal and external, exacerbating the risk of developing depressive pathologies. The possession of a weapon, in these cases, can precipitate things ”.
To weigh, according to Gallucci, is also “an exasperated procedural rigidity, which makes it more difficult to adequately manage some delicate personal situations, which sometimes degenerate tragically”. Hence the desire for “ad hoc regulatory intervention” accompanied, immediately, by the “search for solutions aimed at greater prevention”. In this sense, the request, already made by SILF to the GDF regional command, to open a specific comparison table. “But we are ready – concludes Gallucci – to involve also the regional policyto verify whether the conditions exist to promote specific initiatives in favor of all law enforcement agencies and to raise public awareness on the need to better protect those who work in the service of the community and the territory “.
