The first day of MotoGP testing at Aragon sees a Ducati in the lead, but it’s Jorge Martin’s. Enea Bastianini closes 4th in the combined on Friday with a gap of 181 thousandths from the best time, but there is still room for improvement in view of qualifying. The lack of grip hampered the Gresini Racing driver’s cornering, forced to work in the pits on the front end and setting.

Bastianini starts 4th in Aragon

The ‘Bestia’ anticipates Pecco Bagnaia by 56 thousandths and looks forward to direct access to Q2. But the conditions of the MotorLand asphalt will be decisive, when on Saturday morning it will start to tire. “It went pretty well, we did two pretty good rounds – explains Enea Bastianini at the end of FP2 -. The conditions were really difficult, the track is slow, there is little grip. I went back to my standard set-up, we will have to adapt to the track, work on the electronics which will surely be the key. We weren’t at 100 percent, we’ll see tomorrow, there is room but it all depends on the conditions“.

The lack of grip prompted Bastianini’s team to work on his Ducati Desmosedici, under the skilled hands of the chief engineer Alberto Giribuola about to say goodbye to the Emilian manufacturer. In place of him there will be Marco Rigamonti from the Pramac team, but he works in the motorhomes to deal with the technical and managerial market hits. Now the focus is on the present and on the insidious challenge of Aragon. “We worked a bit on the front, because the entry phase is not like my usual strong point, I struggle to make it. With the last change, perhaps we have made a small step. In the fourth sector it always helps to have a reference in front, when you are alone it is more difficult – concludes Enea Bastianini -. Here it has always been like this, I succeed in the race, less in practice“.
