(ANSA) – PERUGIA, 16 SEPTEMBER – “It is simply crazy to approach wine with cigarettes in terms of danger to human health”: this was said to ANSA by the president of Assoenologi, Riccardo Cotarella, after the World Health Organization adopted the document “European framework for action on alcohol”. “It is yet another thoughtless attack on our world – he adds – but we will take all the necessary actions to counter it”.
“There are dozens of scientific publications – claimed Cotarella – which attest not only that wine, if consumed consciously and in moderation, is not harmful, but is even good for health”. For Cotarella, that of the WHO is an indication that it will issue to all member states, “but it remains a dangerous act that risks bringing one of the most important sectors of Italian agri-food to its knees and we cannot afford it”. “Only a few months ago – concludes the president of Assoenologi – we stopped the European Union’s attempt to demonize wine, now we are ready to do battle on a global scale”.
