Ferrari team principal Mattia Binotto wanted to send a clear message to the rival team. There is something new that could make a difference.
The battle between Red Bull Racing and Ferrari doesn’t just happen on the track. So much happens in F1, in the days of relaxation, between one race and another, in the button room and in the dialectical duels, reported by the newspapers, between the team principals. Mattia Binotto is trying to improve, in this respect, to be able to face two foxes, such as Christian Horner and Toto Wolff. Political power shifts the balance even in F1, we have seen it in recent years, due to technical and regulatory disputes. Mercedes and RB, undoubtedly, have made the difference, rising to a leading role.
If in F1 Ferrari is respected, more for historical merits and name, “young teams” of the new millennium have upset the circus. Red Bull Racing has become an absolute benchmark. The team requested and obtained the freezing of the engines, following the fictitious exit of Honda, managing to involve all the other teams, thanks to the economic crisis. For the Milton Keynes-based team, it was the beginning of a new cycle. Mercedes, in the hybrid era of F1, dominated far and wide for 8 years, also thanks to the extraordinary top position of Toto Wolff. A single man at the command of a team capable of rewriting the historic records of the premier category of Motorsport. And Ferrari? After the secret agreement with the FIA of 2019, the Scuderia had to wait years to get back on its feet.
After two and a half years of fasting, the Maranello team is back to frightening their rivals, thanks to a winning project. The F1 – 75 wing car immediately proved to be a winning car, the main concerns arose, and were confirmed in the course of 2022, by the budget cap and the porpoising issue. On the factual level, the Reds suffered a double political defeat. RB has developed and spent a lot, in a situation of uncertainty and lack of controls. The porpoising that had so plagued the W13 in the first part of the season was canceled, for phantom safety reasons, following the introduction of the anti-porpoising directive. The rebounds were limited, right after the summer break. Now the question has shifted to a new one. F1, Toto Wolff contradicts Binotto: the controversy breaks out in Monza.
F1, Binotto raises his voice
Pierre Gasly, a talented member of the AlphaTauri team, is about to move to Alpine to make up an all-French couple with Ocon. Helmut Marko, after years of investing in the RB Academy, would be keen to sign Colton Herta. In 2022 the Indycar talent reached the podium on two occasions, winning the Indianapolis race. 2020 was his best year with a third place finish in the standings. He certainly showed he had what it took, but he still hasn’t earned the necessary points for the Super license. In March 2019 Colton set an earliness record, becoming the youngest race winner in IndyCar history. Too little for the rules imposed by the International Automobile Federation to access the prestigious F1 circus. Ferrari, Sainz to scream at Monza: only one regret remains..
According to the latest rumors, the president of the FIA, Mohammed Ben Sulayem, would have decided not to grant exemptions, on the contrary following the rules defined by the International Sporting Code. Except in cases of force majeure, the 22-year-old American will not be able to race in the AlphaTauri Junior team in 2023. “At present Pierre Gasly has a contract with us for next season, as I have said several times. Regarding the possibility of Colton Herta obtaining the super license to race in Formula 1 I hope that the FIA makes the decision as soon as possible so that we know what our line up will be for next year and prepare accordingly. The final decision on our drivers is by Red Bull, but I still believe that if Herta fails to get the super license then Gasly will stay with us and nothing will change.”Commented team principal Franz Tost, as reported by FP.it.CopyAMP code

Mattia Binotto intervened on the matter and warned the RB. “I think force majeure cannot be applied in the case of Colton Herta, that would be a totally wrong approach. I believe the rules have been established to protect our sport and ensure that the best choices are made according to the right approaches and processes. Herta could participate in the Formula 1 championship if she had the qualifications to do so, otherwise not. I think all of this is very important and we will certainly look very closely at what the FIA decides on this issue, and I believe that every single team will do the same. It is because of the importance of our sport and we cannot invoke the cause of force majeure in a situation for which it certainly cannot be applied.”Thundered the engineer from Lausanne
