On the occasion of World Clean Up Day 2022, the World Cleanup Day that unites 191 countries around the world for a cleaner planet, a cleanup initiative will be organized on Sunday 17 September to clean up the riparian banks of the Turin Po and adjacent land areas, including the Turin hill. Neglect and adverse / anomalous climatic conditions of this last period have in fact reported waste and environmental degradation on the waters and on the peripheral areas of the stretch of river.
The Vie d’Acqua Association, in collaboration with Decathlon, Leroy Merlin, VDL Sport, Iren Amiat Group, Red Cross and Piedmont Po Park promotes this awareness event with the aim of intervening on the waters of the Po river and on the adjacent banks , cleaning them of large and small waste, after the last similar intervention carried out on 21 September last
Playful and environmental activities will also be organized aimed at raising awareness among citizens and institutions on the potential for sweet and sustainable use of the Turin river and its banks, a common good to take care of, which provides the city with important ecosystem services, with great potential – from the point of view from an economic, tourist and landscape point of view – to be enhanced with the involvement of the numerous partners involved in the initiative.
In the first part of the day, cleaning activities will be carried out in the stretch of the river between the Murazzi and Borgo Navile, in Moncalieri, with the volunteers who, divided into groups, will work on land or on the river. In the afternoon, some recreational and sporting initiatives will be proposed to the participants: educational and excursion activities on land, paddling courses on the water with various types of boats.
“#Trashchallenge – Operation Po” is added to the existing medium-long term initiatives that want to reflect on the need for planning interventions on Turin’s waterways in order to rebuild a relationship between man and river, in a sustainable key , which enhances the surrounding area and the Po Hill, a protected area to which Unesco has awarded the MaB – Man and the Biosphere recognition as a Biosphere Reserve for its naturalistic and non-naturalistic importance.
The aim of the initiative is also to widen the participation to the largest number of associations and organizations (including rowing companies, which will contribute in the water to remove less accessible waste from land, cyclist and runner clubs etc.) and of give broad media and institutional prominence to the initiative.CopyAMP code.
