From hiking boots to mobile phones: useful tips

Still too many accidents and deaths with victims among the mushroom hunters in Piedmont. Since 23 August 18 of them have been recovered by mountain rescue, while three have died. «The search for mushrooms is an activity that every year causes numerous accidents, even serious ones – they explain from the mountain rescue – requiring long and complex rescue operations. Mushroom hunters, in fact, often move in densely wooded areas, away from paths and along steep slopes where there is often no telephone network to launch an emergency call ».

Useful tips

“Without wanting to demonize a category of mountain goers – they add – it is important to convey to all fans of this activity some useful tips for prevent any injuries and facilitate the work of rescuers in case of need“.

Among the tips is to wear hiking boots and not rubber boots “which do not guarantee proper grip on rough terrain”. Evaluate your psychophysical conditions “before running into tiredness, exhaustion or illness”. Finally, it is important not to be alone, have a mobile phone and always communicate to someone where you intend to go and any changes in plans.
