The Formula 1 esports world championship is preparing to kick off: here is the calendar and the changes to the format approved by the F1 government.
Formula 1 presented the calendar and the new format of the F1 Esports Series Pro Championship 2022, the annual world esports championship that will be held on F1 22. The championship will see 10 teams and 30 drivers, who will battle between the months of September and December. This year things will be quite different, as announced on the official Formula 1 website, so it is worth taking a look at how they will work.
The 2022 calendar –
This year, the F1 Esports Series Pro Championship “will see the introduction of longer races, at 50%, with an additional day of racing.” The championship will be played over twelve rounds in four events, each with three qualifying sessions and races over three separate days; all for a total of six streams. The first event will be held between 14 and 16 September in Bahrain, while Imola and Monza will be played on 15 September and 2 November.
The new format of F1 esport –
The new format foresees that the events will be held between Wednesday and Friday, with longer races compared to 35% in 2021. “The 50% increase in distance also introduces a completely new element of competition, with bands of strategic options that now they will open ”, reads the F1 Esports press release. “Strategy, as well as sheer speed and consistency, that will change the game.” In addition, there is the promise of “a huge cash prize pool for the teams and drivers who will accumulate the most points over the season”, after the $ 750,000 paid in 2020.
