Numerous accidents. Three deaths in ten days

(ANSA) – TURIN, 02 SEPT – Still too many accidents and deaths with victims among mushroom hunters in Piedmont. Since 23 August 18 of them have been recovered by mountain rescue, while three have died. “The search for mushrooms is an activity that every year causes numerous accidents, even serious ones – explain from the mountain rescue – requiring long and complex rescue operations. Mushroom hunters, in fact, often move in densely wooded areas, away from the paths and along steep slopes where there is often no telephone network to make an emergency call “.

“Without wanting to demonize a category of mountain goers – they add – it is important to convey to all fans of this activity some useful tips to prevent possible injuries and facilitate the activity of rescuers in case of need”. Among the advice is to wear hiking boots and not rubber boots “which do not guarantee proper grip on rough terrain”. Then seekers are advised to evaluate their psychophysical conditions “before running into fatigue, exhaustion or illness”. Finally, it is important to always go with someone, have a mobile phone and always communicate to someone where you intend to go and any changes in plans.
