Young man of 28 years of Pakistani origin

(ANSA) – TRIESTE, 01 SEPT – A 28-year-old migrant of Pakistani origin, taken yesterday afternoon to the Center for Repatriation and Asylum Seekers (Cpr) in Gradisca d’Isonzo (Gorizia), committed suicide a hour after entering the facility. This was reported by the website of the Friulian daily Messaggero Veneto specifying that the young man had undergone a medical examination and that his behavior seemed normal.

The young man allegedly committed suicide in the dormitory to which he was assigned, after waiting for the people with whom he shared the spaces to come out to smoke a cigarette in the “tubs” outside the rooms. To find him were the same comrades, who alerted the operators of the managing body and the rescuers. This morning the judicial police arrived for the investigations, they collected the testimonies of the comrades in the dormitory and the operators.

The young man had been transferred to the Gradisca CPR from another nearby police station, perhaps after being identified in Italy.

Il Messaggero Veneto reports the words of the municipal Guarantor for the rights of inmates, Giovanna Corbatto: “We do not know if and which ghosts he brought with him, if his dramatic decision was planned or improvised, if he had pathologies. Having spent only one ‘ now at the CPR I would be prudent in citing the living conditions inside as the cause or contributing cause of such an extreme act “. For Corbatto, the young man would not have been against voluntary repatriation to his country of origin. (HANDLE).
