Brienza starts with Saccaggi, Huggins, Pollone, Lurini and Magro in a quintet. Many offensive difficulties for the GTG at the opening of the race, in which the guests go to 0-7. The first red and white points are signed after four minutes by Saccaggi, followed by Huggins, who freezes after a couple of mistakes. The two outsiders are unleashed and the locals place a break of 11-4 which allows them to impact after six rounds of hands. The American guard slips the three-point game that is worth the first Pistoia advantage of the match and Del Chiaro stretches up to +5 (16-11). The Effe is in difficulty, but to remove the chestnuts from the fire we think Italian and Cucci with two bombs that mean again parity at 18.
Fantinelli opens the second period with five points in a row which, combined with Davis’ two, are worth another 0-7 biancoblu. Interrupted, as happened in the first fraction, by Saccaggi with a basket from over the 6.75 range. The play from Carrara is imitated from the corner by Lurini, then Del Chiaro takes advantage of an assist behind Huggins’ back to make -1 (8-9). The former Montale also achieves the overtaking basket, to which Thornton and Davis immediately respond (10-13 at 6 ‘). Cloths, Saccaggi (twice), Thornton, Huggins and Italiano open fire from 3, and the challenge remains balanced, but the score at the end of the quarter smiles at Bologna (19-24).
The beginning of the third period is in the sign of Thornton, author of five points. It is true that Dalmonte’s team has a better start as in the previous stages, but Pistoia is there and a positive Del Chiaro signs the -1 (6-7 at 5 ‘). After so many shooting errors, Pollone also signs up on the scoresheet with the triple of the first red and white advantage in the fourth. Lurini burns his retina from behind the arch, Higgins does the same twice and the GTG goes to +9 on 18-9 at 8 ‘. At the end of the fraction the score instead reads 20-14.
Cucci inspires the 0-10 partial with which Effe begins the last period. After more than four minutes Del Chiaro scores the first basket of the fourth, for a Pistoia that struggles at an offensive level. The energies are now scarce, the clarity is less, but Lurini still writes -5 (5-10). After a technician whistled at Saccaggi and the free shots made by Lurini, the fraction ends on 8-16 Fortitudo, which also imposes itself overall for 65-72.
