The first center of Veneto is at the former Land Customs House

(ANSA) – VENICE, 01 SEPT – The new integrated center for restoration and diagnostics, study, research and training and enhancement of cultural heritage is born in Verona. The Superintendence of Archeology, Fine Arts and Landscape, the Municipality and the Academy of Verona strengthen their collaboration in the field of cultural heritage restoration by sharing the spaces of the monumental complex of the Dogana di Terra in the Filippini district.

The new agreement provides for the restoration and redevelopment, by the Academy and at the expense of the Superintendency project, of the right wing of the Customs Office. Here it is planned – starting from the first semester of the academic year 2022/2023 and for the next 19 years – the placement of the entire School of Restoration of the Academy of Fine Arts, with the relative laboratories and the diagnostics center. With the collaboration of the Civic Museums of Verona, the Dogana di Terra thus becomes the first integrated center for the restoration of the cultural heritage of the Veneto Region, with all-round didactic and application potential: from painting to mosaics, to wood, to ceramics, to the stone. “I believe that this place is a beautiful synthesis of protection and enhancement, the result of a path that is made both of knowing and living an experience – added the mayor of Verona, Damiano Tommasi -. An educating role in training is that of space, and bringing here the young people who will have to be an active part of safeguarding our heritage represents an additional element that makes this activity unique “. This new agreement, as observed by the president of the Academy of Fine Arts of Verona, Marco Giaracuni, “aims to optimize the use of reciprocal human and technical resources and the different professionals, enhancing research and experimentation with new technologies. . The sharing of spaces and work tools, with the consequent possibility of containing management and updating costs, has the ambition of transforming itself into a progressive transfer of skills between institutions, with the possibility of bringing together the activities of students in projects and researches of mutual interest “.
