Drought alarm in Umbria, the mayor prohibits the use of water for non-essential domestic uses

Drought has been alarmed throughout Umbria with the Paglia which in the Orvieto Scalo area does not reach one meter in height. In the rest of the region the basins and rivers are dry and the particularly hot season and the prolonged lack of rainfall only worsens the situation. The mayor of Orvieto has issued a trade union ordinance published in the online Praetorian Register, which prohibits the use of water resources from the public aqueduct for non-essential domestic uses such as: washing cars, watering orchards and gardens, of water in the pools. Such behaviors will be prosecuted in accordance with the law.

The provision for limiting water consumption issued by the Municipality acknowledges the formalized request in this sense by the Integrated Water Service and is motivated by the absence of rainfall which in the whole municipal area, as in other territories of the province and the region, is causing a worrying state of drought, as well as the need to safeguard public health by preventing all potential risks.

The order was sent to all the police forces operating in the municipal area.
