Ancona, 25 January 2023 – Hydrogen ‘Made in Marche’ for industry and local public transport, without neglecting the possibility of using it also to produce biomethane or natural synthetic gas (a valid sustainable alternative for the mobility and electrification of rural areas). This is the objective of the Marche Region which, shortly, will issue a tender financed with 14 million euros from the Pnrr. After a survey of the area, to evaluate the entrepreneurial interest in investing in green hydrogen, the potential for developing production lines and local distribution emerged.

Therefore the Region participated in the national distribution of the 450 million euros of the Pnrr available for the local production of hydrogen in abandoned industrial areas, to create the so-called ‘Hydrogen Valleys’: industrial areas with an economy partly based on hydrogen. 14 million will arrive in the Marches on the basis of criteria established at national level (added value of the production of the manufacturing industry, resident population, energy consumption from renewable sources).

“The Marches they aim to cover a driving role in the country’s energy transition”explains the Councilor for Energy Andrea Maria Antonini, submitting the tender. Green hydrogen represents a clean variant of hydrogen: not present in nature, it is produced through renewable sources, without generating pollutants. “The Marches will be the protagonists of the decarbonisation process of national energy sources, in line with European planning – Antonini reiterated -. Italy has been suffering in terms of energy policies for a decade. A shortage that emerged forcefully following the Ukrainian conflict Now there is a renewed drive to diversify, thanks to the resources of the Pnrr”.

The regional strategyanticipated by the councilor, moves on several fronts: “Starting from hydrogen which, through the creation of electrolysers, is able to provide answers to the productive world. Then the efficiency of public buildings, with an imminent regional tender which will allocate 1.5 million euros to contain management costs, especially those of the most energy-intensive structures. We are working on bonuses, for 2.5 million, to support the energy saving of families in difficulty. The new programming of funds will also start soon EU from the ERDF, with another 60 million euros, again earmarked for energy efficiency and renewables”.
