After the damage caused by the violent sea storms, Riccardo Padovano, President of Sib Abruzzo and Fipe-Confcommercio, in a note asks again for the intervention of the institutions

“Here we go again with the storms that have returned to hit our region in the last few hours with the arrival of bad weather. We are talking about a disaster waiting to happen. The storm surges this time hit Pineto, Silvi, Casalbordino, Roseto degli Abruzzi, Alba Adriatica and above all Francavilla al mare where the Municipal Administration had recently taken care of the maintenance of the cliffs in the northern section of the beach. We are waiting for a further 500 thousand euros for further maintenance work on the cliffs and for this reason we appeal to the regional councilor Daniele D’Amario to immediately activate the emergency procedure because the funding is linked to ordinary maintenance and therefore no need to activate any particular procedure or design. Therefore, once this has been ascertained, while waiting for these procedures to be followed up with regard to the installation of the cliffs, we ask for an intervention of the utmost urgency for those areas that are at risk of storm surges and I refer to the bathing establishments and civilian homes because the runway has been overcome cycle path which is a public work, skirts the walls of the houses.

So urgent interventions are more than ever necessary. When we talk about emergency it means that the procedures follow the emergency. This is why we sit down at the tables and do the works. In Francavilla where construction works are already underway and therefore those procedures for those works are extended to further procedures. One thing is certain. Every year the same problems recur with so much damage to the structures.

Things must be prevented and bathers have the skills to suggest to technicians and offices what can and must be done. And in this sense – continues Padovano – we need to resort to sand dunes. Whoever made the sand dunes at least saved the structures. Sand dunes are not to be licensed. They just have to be done. What does it mean to ask for authorizations when the risk is to create damage to the structures. If there hadn’t been dunes in front of some shores, today we would be faced with other damaged establishments. And so the sand end procedure must be a normal procedure and whoever can do it must do it without further authorizations. This is what is normally done in Emilia Romagna and here we have to deal with bureaucratic and authorization problems. Which in some ways is unacceptable. I confide in the engineer of maritime pears of the Abruzzo Region Marcello Dalberto who has implemented a series of procedures and has had sums allocated for various municipalities affected by the storm surges. Now the local administrations must activate the emergency tables”. concludes Riccardo Padovano.
