For the Czech rider it will be the second year in the Moto2 category. Filip Salac is the confirmation of Gresini Racing in the intermediate class, indicating that significant improvements are expected in 2023. The podium achieved in Thailand, albeit in very particular conditions, however confirms the progress seen in the second part of the championship. The Faenza structure has confirmed the young Salac for the 2023 World Cup, clearly determined to make further progress.

Difficult change

“I struggled to adapt to the bike, I had many accidents” admitted the 21-year-old from Mladá Boleslav during the team presentation. The change of category, leaving the “small” Moto3 to switch to the KALEX Triumph, was clearly not a walk in the park. His 2022 ended in 20th place in the world championship with 45 points, almost half of these arrived with 2nd place obtained under the downpour in Thailand. Certainly exceptional conditions, but it wasn’t really easy to stay in the saddle given the practically flooded track. Local hero Somkiat Chantra knows it well… Twenty points accumulated in that particular Grand Prix, to which can be added another nine points finishes, out of all three top ten finishes at Assen (10th), Silverstone (9th) and Motegi ( 10th).

Loaded Salac for 2023

“Filip has shown good growth from mid-season onwards. He has achieved a solid season, with a podium on his debut, which is never easy in a category like Moto2 ” team manager Luca Gresini said about him. To underline the renewed confidence in the Czech rider for the 2023 World Championship. “I am happy to have stayed in the same team for another year” Salac stressed. Certainly this is a solid starting point for maintaining concentration on the track. His consistency and feeling with the bike needs to be improved (10 zeros in 20 GPs in 2022 on the scoresheet), but he has a year of experience behind him which will certainly be useful. It’s not easy to emerge in Moto2, we’ll see if the 21-year-old Czech will be able to show himself.
