A cyclist is in a reserved prognosis after the head-on and violent crash into a car, happened yesterday morning, in the heart of the historic center of Naples. The man, a 47-year-old resident of Arzano, was aboard his own mountain bike when he was involved in a collision with a BMW car, driven by a 47-year-old Neapolitan. In the impact between the two who were proceeding in opposite directions, in the stretch of via Pessina where via Santa Teresa degli Scalzi, via Salvator Rosa and piazza Museo converge, the cyclist had the worst, remaining lifeless on the asphalt.

The clash was violent. The front wheel rim of the bicycle was completely bent in the head-on collision with the car which caused the cyclist to jump for a few meters until he collided with a parked scooter and then against the asphalt. The driver of the car tried to help the man, together with some passers-by, but the 47-year-old remained on the ground lifeless until the ambulance arrived which transported him to the nearby “Vecchio Pellegrini” hospital. The dynamics of the crash are being reconstructed and, for the municipal policemen of the Road Accident section investigating the accident, the images of the video surveillance cameras that point straight to the road section where the collision took place will be fundamental.

What is certain, so far, concerns the site of the impact, which occurred in the center of the carriageway in via Pessina where the vehicles coming from via Santa Teresa degli Scalzi and via Salvator Rosa converge, the direction from which the cyclist arrived and where the vehicles coming from the museum square, the direction from which the driver of the BMW arrived. The collision between the cyclist and the motorist took place, not far from the traffic lights that regulate the movement of those coming from Piazza Museo, in the stretch that includes a two-way traffic where the trajectories of the two 47-year-olds crossed.

The 47-year-old aboard his mountain bike is a family man with a passion for muscle bicycles, used to pedaling in complete safety, always equipped with a protective helmet and high-visibility jacket. Also yesterday morning, the man wore safety devices which, however, were not enough to protect him from the violence of the impact against the car. The investigations of the Accident Section of the municipal police commanded by Antonio Muriano aim to clarify the trajectory of the two men involved in the collision and to ascertain the possibility that someone has widened his own too much, ending up in the other’s trajectory. Among the ongoing investigations, apart from the monitoring of the images captured by the electronic eyes, the collection of testimonies is underway and the analysis of the planimetric surveys carried out on site, immediately after the accident. At the moment, both the car and the bicycle have been seized and, as per protocol, tests have been carried out to detect any use of drugs or alcohol in the motorist.

.

The cyclist, rescued due to a maximum emergency code, was first intubated and assisted in intensive care at the Vecchio Pellegrini hospital and, late yesterday morning, was transferred to the intensive care unit of the Ospedale del Mare where he is hospitalized with a reserved prognosis. A 53-year-old Neapolitan is also hospitalized in the same ward who, around three in the morning on Saturday, lost control of his Beverly 500 scooter on via Amerigo Vespucci. The man was traveling in the preferential lane and, from the first investigations carried out again by the road accident police, it seems that the centaur braked suddenly perhaps to avoid something such as another vehicle. The 53-year-old is also in a reserved prognosis.
