Today it has become difficult to talk about politics among young people as they are increasingly detached from this issue and distrustful of institutions. I often hear young people say: “politicians are all the same”, “anyone who enters will be a thief like the others”, seeing everything black and hopeless. Today’s young people are angry at this policy which in recent years has only led to precariousness by no longer offering a secure job, stability, the possibility of starting a family and living in dignity, realizing that there is no longer anything certain for the their future. There are many problems in Calabria starting with health care where you have to wait hours and hours in a waiting room in an emergency room to be visited, from the lack of hospitals where you have to bring medicines from home, from the lack of funds for assistance for non-self-sufficient people. Another fundamental point is the waste where the Ndrangheta has had its hands for some time now, making our territory a second land of fires by burying poisons under our feet, under our houses, making us die slowly. What to say about the water that has now become a luxury for us Calabrians in the summer: non-existent or too dated water networks that lose hundreds of cubic meters during the water journey due to leaks in the water network forcing the municipalities to turn off the taps of families 4/5 months a year. What happens to the funds allocated to the region? Where do they end up? Why are they allocated late? These are the questions that young people ask themselves, who have fallen out of love with politics by now and are ready to vote in protest, hoping that something will change even in movements that have made populism their weapon of battle. The South and Calabria therefore seem abandoned by the institutions, poorly governed in recent decades without even adequate structures, without roads, difficult viability starting with the A2 of the Mediterranean: inaugurated but never finished. Young people are not weak but tired of fighting, they prefer to do like our ancestors by emigrating as the latest polls tell us in search of a realization that they will never get here in Calabria.
