Campania, weather alert until 10 January

A yellow weather alert issued yesterday by the regional Civil Protection for thunderstorms, strong winds and storm surges is in place throughout Campania until 11.59 pm. In consideration of the evolution of the perturbation and on the basis of the meteorological models available, the Functional Center has estimated extend the weather alert, always with a yellow hydrogeological criticality leveluntil 12 noon tomorrow, January 10, throughout Campania with the exception of zones 2, 4, 7 (Alto Volturno and Matese; Alta Irpinia and Sannio; Tanagro).

They are still expected even intense thunderstorms, strong north-westerly winds with reinforcements, gusts (they then tend to position themselves from the North) and possible storm surges along exposed coasts. Phenomena such as: surface runoff with transport of material are possible; flooding of underground rooms and those on the ground floor; surface flow of water in roadways, phenomena of regurgitation of rainwater disposal systems with overflowing and involvement of depressed areas; raising of the hydrometric levels of the water courses, with flooding of the neighboring areas, also due to the effect of local criticalities (tombing, restrictions, etc.); rockfall in several points of the territory and occasional landslides linked to particularly fragile hydrogeological conditions even without new rains.

The Civil Protection of the Campania Region recommends that the competent authorities activate or keep active the Municipal Operational Centers (COC), to adopt all the measures envisaged by the respective municipal Civil Protection Plans to prevent, contrast and mitigate the phenomena highlighted with reference to both the risk hydrogeological and the impact of strong winds and rough seas on the territory. It is recommended to verify the correct maintenance of the public green areas and of the structures exposed to the stresses of the winds and waves. Pay attention to the notices issued by the regional Operations Room.
