A 25-year-old of Danish origin is hospitalized in serious condition at the Polyclinic of Milan after being caught by a sickness this morning in Ganten Milan21 Half Marathon in Piazza Damiano Chiesa, in the Lombard capital.

Cardiac arrest during the Milan half marathon

The young man, who had a cardiac arrestwas initially rescued by firefighters who used the defibrillator and by a doctor who has started resuscitation maneuvers. Shortly afterwards the 118 personnel arrived who intubated him and took him to the Milan Polyclinic in very serious conditions. The 25-year-old is in a reserved prognosis.

Today’s race saw around 4,000 runners at the start, divided between the half marathon and the 10 km race with departure and arrival from via Arona, in the City Life area. At the start also the runners of the non-competitive races with a route that touched the entire center of Milan, including Piazza Duomo. The Danish runner fell ill in the last stretch of the official race, 21 km and 97 meters long.
