(ANSA) – TURIN, NOVEMBER 25 – The first Rock train, which from Monday will travel on the tracks of the Turin-Milan line, was presented this morning on platform 1 of the Turin Porta Nuova station. The ribbon was cut by the President of the Piedmont Region, Alberto Cirio, the councilor for transport, Marco Gabusi, Sabrina De Filippis, regional business director of Trenitalia and Marco Della Monica, director of Trenitalia Piedmont. With the launch of the new service contract, signed last October 2022, the total investments made in Piedmont amount to 953 million euros. “We have put in place a huge investment plan – confirms Sabrina De Filippis – thanks to which we will be able to continue the renewal program of the metropolitan and regional train fleet that began in January 2021”.
The 38 new made in Italy trains envisaged in the service contract for the Turin metropolitan area are joined by another 33 trains under the new regional contract. The average age of the trains will go from the current 26.7 years to 14.3 years and on the Sfm lines the average age of 3.5 years will be reached. The Rock makes it possible to reduce consumption by 30% compared to previous trains and is made up of 97% recyclable materials. It will be used on the busiest regional routes such as Turin-Milan and Turin-Genoa. It carries up to 1000 people and reaches 160 kilometers per hour. The wagons are equipped with luggage racks and bike racks, as well as 50 security cameras. (HANDLE).
