625 controlled people, 163 inspected baggage, 195 agents engaged in 59 railway stations in Sicily: these are the results achieved by the Railway Police Department for Sicily during the eleventh day of the year dedicated to “Safe Stations”, organized nationally by the Railway Police Service, in order to increase the level of security in stations, on trains and along the line.

The Polfer operations room coordinated the operation throughout the region, displacing the controls of the agents, equipped with metal detectors and palmtops, towards the most sensitive areas based on the flow of passengers in transit.

In the three largest stations in Sicily, extraordinary checks were carried out with the help of the dog units of the Palermo and Catania Police Headquarters and the Messina Guardia di Finanza.

In Catania, the agents issued 8 fines for infringements of the railway police regulations. In particular, 6 people were fined because they were in the railway area without justified reason and 2 other travelers because they dangerously crossed the tracks instead of using the underpasses.
