50 doctors and health personnel from some Tuscan facilities have been investigated for the death of a 69-year-old, Mariarosa Intilia, originally from Udine, following a heart operation. Specifically, the professionals are part of three hospital structures: Don Gnocchi, Opa and Noa, all structures in the province of Massa Carrara, and the Cisanello hospital in Pisa.
An autopsy was performed on the 69-year-old’s body on June 21. Last summer the woman was in Massa Carrara visiting her relatives. According to the primary reconstructions of the prosecutor’s office, she had had to go to Pisa for heart problems to undergo surgery.
The post-surgery would have taken place without complications, so much so that the woman was transferred to the rehabilitation facility in Marina di Massa to be taken care of for a few days. During her hospitalization, about ten days after the operation, however, the woman began to experience pain in her arm and shoulder.
The first examination that was carried out had not found any complications, but the pain did not stop. The woman was then subjected to another examination the following day which gave a different result. At that moment, Don Gnocchi deemed it appropriate to transfer the patient to Noa, where the doctors understood that the problem was serious and decided to entrust the woman to the care of the heart hospital.
