ISERNIA – The Arma dei Carabinieri organized the celebration ceremony of the Virgo Fidelis, in the evocative setting of the Hermitage of Saints Cosma and Damiano.
This afternoon, in the evocative setting of the Hermitage of Saints Cosma and Damiano of Isernia, the Provincial Commander of the Carabinieri, Colonel Vincenzo Maresca, organized the celebration ceremony of the Virgo Fidelis, officiated by HE Mons. Camillo Cibotti, Bishop of the Diocese of Isernia -Venafro.
Together with the Virgin Mary, mother of Jesus, Patroness of the Carabinieri since 1949 at the behest of Pope Pius XII, there is also the 81st Anniversary of the battle of Culqualber and the “Orphan Day”.
In the presence of the Prefect of the Province of Isernia, Her Excellency Dr. Gabriella Faramondi, the President of the Province, the President of the Court, the Prosecutor, the heads of the provincial Police Forces, representatives of the associations of staff on leave and several devoted citizens to the Mother of the Carabinieri, the Provincial Commander, in his speech, started from the description of the image of the Virgo Fidelis, a Mother with a loving gaze turned towards the Bible and the ever-burning Flame. A hand on her heart, her face in profile and the positioning of her veil which, instead of covering, highlights her ear which symbolizes her willingness to listen.
More than ever, this representation represents the entire Carabinieri Corps which continues to increasingly develop its social capacity for proximity and closeness to the citizen, the weak, the victim. Without listening, he added, one cannot empathize with one’s neighbor and one cannot perceive those requests that sometimes one does not have the strength or courage to express. Even the youngest Carabiniere in the whole province, on duty at the Capracotta Station, during the recent visit of the Interregional Commander, in describing his work in a quiet reality far from the nerve centers, summed up by saying: “Let’s talk to the people ”.
People talk to the Carabinieri as if they were lay confessors, certainly not bound by secrecy, but inclined to an innate reserve. Continuing, the Colonel, after recalling the anniversary of one of the bloodiest battles in Africa, the defense of the Culqualber stronghold, following which the Flag of the Carabinieri received the second Gold Medal for Valor Military, he addressed a thought to all the orphans of the Carabinieri.
