The shortfall was already visible in the spring, in the period in which, generally, the municipalities send the first installment to be paid to the users, but now and in the coming weeks, what appears as a dangerous crack in the collection of the Tari risks turning into a black hole in the public coffers, a chasm so deep as to screw up the budgets of those Sicilian municipalities that have not yet ended up in trouble.
In fact, due to the energy crisis and the high cost of living, the families of the Island with medium-low income and in a situation of economic difficulty, who do not benefit from reductions on excise duties, in front of the tragic crossroads, with the electricity bill on the right and of gas, tripled in costs compared to 2021, and on the left the new rates of the tax for waste management, are obviously giving priority to home energy, with all due respect to the municipal administrations, for which the garbage tax represents a essential resource. According to initial estimates in Mazara del Vallo: a drop of over 50% in payments. And in Gela the shortfall has grown by 10% compared to last year.
